Les Edgerton, 80 of Fort Wayne died Thursday August 31 of a short battle with Covid 19. He & his wife Mary were Married 37 years. Les served 4 years in the Navy as a cryptographer. He was a voracious reader & authored 23 published books. His days were spent writing, teaching, coaching & encouraging other writers. His extraordinary life gave him plenty of material. Les taught creative writing for UCLA extension writers program, Trine University, Saint Francis University, a class for New York writer’s workshop & 3 years at the University of Toledo. Les has BA from Indiana University where he was elected student body president then received his MFA in writing from Vermont College. His fiction has been nominated for or won: The Pushcart prize, O. Henry award, Edgar Allen Poe award & many more. The most recent was the Claymore award at the Killer Nashville International Writer's Conference 2023. He received a giant, gleaming silver dagger...so him! He was humbled and thrilled. Les loved his family & he and Mary tragically lost their 33 year old son, Michael in March of this year. Les and Mike were avid, rabid fans of Notre Dame football and San Francisco Giants baseball.
Surviving are his daughters Maria (Joe) Shearer Lutz. Britney (Ray) Robinson. Sienna (Jamie) Cox. He is also survived by his wife Mary (Goff) Edgerton. Sister Ann (Neil) Mort. Brother John Edgerton. & 3 grandchildren Nikole, Logan & Lewis. Les was preceded in death by his mother & father Dorothy (Vincent) Edgerton & Leslie Harold Edgerton Sr. Sisters Joan Tucker & Kathy (John) Ratkiewicz. & son Michael Bud Edgerton.
