James Ronald Hoar, 79, of New Haven went to be with Jesus on Saturday, August 13, 2022. A lover of life, Jim was a devoted veteran , friend, and family man. He loved his country and was a former member of the U.S. Army's 89th Cavalry (and member of the famed "Blackhorse" Regiment) and was awarded the Army commendation medal for heroism when he served in Vietnam in 1969. An avid sports fan, Jim loved his Indiana Hoosiers, Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals, and North Side Redskins, where he graduated in 1961 after playing basketball for Coach Hey. But mostly, he loved God and people - especially his family and friends. A humble follower of Christ, Jim is survived by his loving wife Martha, with whom he was happily married 58 years, and his four daughters: Michelle (Dave); Barb (John); Ang (Tim); and Kristie (Mark). He was preceded in death by his parents ( Ronald and Ada), Jim is further survived by his brother Bob, and his sisters: Marcia (Stanley), Carol ( Terry), and Pam (Tom). Visitation is from 4 - 8 PM on Friday August 19, 2022 at Grace Gathering Church in New Haven. On Saturday, August 20, 2022 there will be a visitation at Grace Gathering from 9- 11 AM, and Jim's Celebration of life service will follow at 11 AM. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Shepherd's House are greatly appreciated.
