James Bowen “Bo” Downey died Sunday May 1, 2022. Born in Greencastle, IN, November 9, 1960, he was the son of Muriel Woodhall Downey and the late James E. Downey. A 1979 graduate of Ashland High, Ashland, WI, Bo excelled in football and baseball, and enjoyed fishing, ice hockey and skiing. He earned a BA at UW-Eau Claire and an MS from UW-Stout. Bo had a huge, embracing personality and a smile that lit up the room when he entered; he knew no stranger. The golf course was both his friend and enemy; he took pride in a hole-in-one at a Wisconsin Callaway Golf event and fussed loudly on other outings. Bo retired from Martin County School District, Stuart, FL after 20 years of successful teaching with a “Teacher of the Year” honor and recognition as ‘Coach’. He is survived by “the light of his life”, daughter, Mackenzie Downey of Palm Beach Gardens, FL., mother, Muriel Downey, brother Pete Downey, nephew Jack Downey and niece Clair Downey, Fort Wayne and brother, Chad Downey (Christina), nephew, Cole, Noblesville, IN; special friends, Patty and Brogan Morris, FL. Preceding Bo in death were sister, Kira Downey, father, James E. Downey and stepfather, Leon Hurst. In keeping with Bo’s wishes, no formal service will be held. A celebration of life will take place in the future.
